Boiler Repair in Falmouth, MA for Old Cast Iron and New Wall-Hung Units
Plenty of Falmouth houses, from Woods Hole to Waquoit, still heat with a boiler pushing hot water through baseboard. Some burn oil, some run on natural gas, and many use propane where the gas main never reached. We work on all three, including Weil-McLain and other common brands.
Most calls start with no heat, no hot water, or a strange new sound. We find the cause before swapping parts. It might be a clogged oil nozzle, a dead circulator, a stuck zone valve, a worn igniter, or a thermostat that stopped talking to the boiler.
We’ve been fixing Cape heating systems since 2001, and as a Falmouth plumbing and heating company we’ve seen these failures enough times to know where to look first.

Boilers and Hot Water Heat We Service
Each setup has its own weak spots.
Oil-fired boilers
Still common in older Capes. Most no-heat calls trace back to a dirty nozzle or filter, a bad ignition transformer, or a tank that ran lower than anyone realized.
Gas and propane boilers
We check igniters, flame sensors, gas pressure and venting. Condensing models also have a condensate line that has to stay clear or the boiler shuts itself down.
Combi boilers
One wall-hung unit for heat and on-demand hot water. Great for small mechanical rooms, though scale builds up on the hot water side and needs periodic flushing.
Indirect water heaters
A tank heated by its own boiler zone. Lukewarm showers usually mean a zone valve, circulator or coil problem. Standalone tanks are covered under water heater repair in Falmouth.
Baseboard and radiant floors
We bleed trapped air, balance zones that heat unevenly, and service radiant manifolds. Cold upstairs rooms and gurgling pipes usually mean air in the loop or a weak circulator.
Reviews from Cape Cod homeowners
Totally impressed with Blue Pacific Heating as they did a tune-up on my furnace.
Great service for an emergency, quick to respond, communicated from start to finish. A fair price and great service, I would highly recommend this customer focused company.
We hired Nick a year ago for some work and he's been terrific. Twice this week he responded immediately to emergencies: once through a facetime fix, once (Saturday on Memorial Day weekend!) through an emergency visit. Always skilled, sensible, low key, friendly and responsive. We can't recommend him highly enough!
they were on time and executed what they said they would do.
thank you

Boiler Symptoms You Shouldn’t Wait On
Boilers rarely quit with no warning. These are the calls we get most.
A dripping relief valve can wait a day. A spraying one, soot around the burner, or a fuel smell cannot. Shut the boiler off at its service switch and call us.
- No heat, or heat in only some zones
- Pressure gauge running high or the relief valve dripping
- Pressure that keeps dropping and needs refilling
- Water pooling under the boiler or around pumps
- Short cycling, firing and shutting off every few minutes
- Kettling, a rumbling sound from scale in the heat exchanger
- Soot, an oil smell, or a lazy yellow flame
Should You Repair the Old Boiler or Replace It?
It usually comes down to the heat exchanger, the boiler’s age and its fuel use.
Repair usually makes sense when
- The heat exchanger is sound and dry
- The failure is a pump, igniter, valve or control
- Parts are still made for your model
Replacement is worth pricing when
- A cast iron section or heat exchanger is cracked
- Repairs pile up winter after winter
- You’re switching fuels, like oil to propane
- You’re adding a heat pump and rethinking the system
Our guide to boiler repair vs. boiler replacement goes deeper. A new boiler should be sized to the house’s real heat loss, not matched to the old one, since many older boilers were oversized when they went in.
What Annual Boiler Maintenance Covers
A yearly visit is the cheapest way to avoid a January no-heat call.
1
Clean the burner
Oil boilers get a new nozzle and filter and the soot cleaned out. Gas and propane units get the burner, igniter and flame sensor checked, plus the condensate line.
2
Check combustion and venting
We confirm the boiler burns cleanly and exhaust leaves through the chimney or sidewall vent. Blocked venting is how carbon monoxide ends up indoors.
3
Test pressure and safety controls
We check system pressure, the relief valve, the expansion tank, and the high limit and low water cutoff (where installed) that shut the boiler down if something goes wrong.
4
Run every zone
Each zone and the indirect tank gets fired and confirmed. Then you get a plain rundown of anything worth fixing before winter.
Closing Up for the Winter?
A boiler that stops in an empty house can mean split pipes and wet ceilings before anyone notices. Get it serviced before you leave, and add a low-temperature alarm or Wi-Fi thermostat.
Backup Heat, Seasonal Homes and Boilers Beyond Falmouth
If you’re adding heat pumps or ductless mini splits, it’s common to keep the boiler around for the coldest stretches, wired so it only fires when the heat pump needs help. Homes with ducted warm air have a different system, covered on our furnace repair page.
We service boilers outside town too. Neighbors to the east can read about boiler repair in Mashpee, and Bourne homeowners weighing a new system can start with boiler replacement in Bourne.

What people ask us about boiler service in Falmouth
Don’t see your question here? Call or text (508) 274-9939. We’ll give you a straight answer.
Why does my boiler keep losing pressure?
Water is getting out somewhere. It could be a slow drip at a fitting, a weeping relief valve, or a leak in baseboard or radiant tubing you can’t see. Topping it off yourself treats the symptom, and the fresh water brings in oxygen and minerals that wear the boiler out faster. It’s worth having the leak found.
What is the rumbling noise coming from my boiler?
Most likely kettling. Scale or sludge builds up in the heat exchanger, water trapped under it flashes to steam, and you hear rumbling or knocking. Light kettling can sometimes be treated with a descaling cleaner. Heavy kettling in an older boiler is often a sign the heat exchanger is wearing out.
How often should a boiler be serviced on Cape Cod?
Every year, and the best window is August through October, before heating season starts. Oil boilers truly need it every year because soot builds up fast. Gas and propane boilers stay cleaner, but the venting and safety controls still need checking. For a seasonal home, book it before you close up.
Can you replace an oil boiler with a propane or gas boiler?
Yes. It’s a job we quote often, especially where gas has reached the street or there’s room for a propane tank. The job means a new boiler, new venting, gas piping and a plan for the old oil tank. We quote the whole conversion as one job.
My heat works but I have no hot water. Is that the boiler?
It might be. If your hot water comes from an indirect tank or a combi boiler, the boiler makes it. A stuck zone valve or dead circulator on the tank’s zone can kill hot water while the heat runs fine. If you have a separate water heater, the boiler isn’t involved.
