Drain Cleaning in Yarmouth for Rentals and Summer Homes
Yarmouth has its share of weekly rentals and second homes, from South Yarmouth near Bass River to the older houses along Route 6A in Yarmouth Port. A house that sleeps eight, turned over every Saturday, puts more through its drains in one summer than most year-round homes do in several.
Guests don’t know which drain is slow or what a septic system can handle. They rinse sand and long hair down the tub and flush things they wouldn’t at home. Clogs build for weeks, then one fails mid-stay.
The equipment is what we bring to any drain cleaning job in Falmouth, but for rentals we lean on prevention. A clog between guests is far easier than one during a stay.

Shower and Tub Clogs in Busy Yarmouth Bathrooms
Bathroom drains are where rental wear shows up first.
Hair and soap mats
Hair binds with soap scum into a mat just below the drain opening or around the stopper linkage. It starts as slow draining and ends with standing water at the ankles.
Slow bathroom sinks
Toothpaste, shaving residue and hair collect on the pop-up stopper and in the trap. A sink that drains in a slow swirl usually just needs the stopper pulled and the trap cleared.
Tub stoppers and overflows
Pop-up and trip-lever stoppers collect hair on their moving parts. Clearing the stopper is sometimes all a slow tub needs, so we check that before running a cable down the drain.
Toilets that clog often
Wipes, too much paper or a weak flush cause repeat clogs in rentals. If it’s always the same toilet, the bowl’s design may be the issue, and replacing that toilet can be the real fix.

A Turnover Day Drain Check for Yarmouth Rentals
Cleaners and managers can catch most drain trouble in minutes.
A drain that slows a little each week is the one to call about. Fixing it on turnover day beats a mid-week emergency.
- Run each shower and tub for 30 seconds and watch for pooling
- Pull visible hair from shower drains and stoppers
- Flush every toilet and watch it refill normally
- Run the kitchen sink and disposal, listening for gurgles
- Put a wastebasket in every bathroom
- Note any drain slower than last week and report it

Preventive Cleaning vs. Waiting for the Clog
For a year-round home, calling when something clogs is often fine. A rental is different.
Waiting for a clog
- Nothing spent until something goes wrong
- Clogs tend to hit mid-stay, with guests home
- Water damage and refunds can follow a bad backup
Scheduled cleaning
- Work happens in an empty house on your schedule
- Shower, tub and main lines start each season clear
- Problems like roots or a sagging line get found early
Setting Up a Preventive Drain Plan in Yarmouth
Here’s how we usually set it up.
1
Pre-season cleaning
Before the first guests, we clear the bathroom drains and the kitchen line, and clean the main if it’s been sluggish. Opening week is a bad time to learn a drain is half closed.
2
Camera the main once
A single camera inspection tells us whether the line from the house is sound, coated or damaged. That decides whether a yearly cleaning is enough or the line needs more attention.
3
End-of-season check
After the last guests, we clear what the summer packed in. It’s also a good time to check the water heater in your Yarmouth home, which works hard all season too.
Clogged Drain or a Septic Problem?
Much of Yarmouth still relies on septic. The town has begun a decades-long sewer project aimed at Lewis Bay, Parkers River and Bass River, starting along parts of Route 28 and South Shore Drive and funded partly by the short-term rental tax. Until your street connects, a full house can push a septic system hard.
A single slow shower or sink is almost always a drain clog, and that’s our work. When every drain slows at once, the lowest one backs up and the yard near the tank is wet or smells, the tank may need pumping. We don’t pump tanks, so call your septic company. We can clear the line to the tank to rule out the pipe.
If bathroom drains keep fighting you, updated fixtures may help. See our bathroom remodeling work, or the Yarmouth plumber page for other repairs.

What people ask us about drain cleaning in Yarmouth
Don’t see your question here? Call or text (508) 274-9939. We’ll give you a straight answer.
Can you clear a slow drain on turnover day while the cleaners are there?
Yes. Turnover day is a good time for us to clear a slow tub or sink, since the house is empty for a few hours. Send the address, the lockbox code and the time window, and we’ll text you when it’s done.
What can I leave for rental guests to keep them from clogging the drains?
A few simple things help. Put a wastebasket in every bathroom, add hair catchers to the showers and a strainer in the kitchen sink, and leave a short note asking guests not to flush wipes or pour grease down the drain. If the house is on septic, say so in the note.
Do I have to take out the tub stopper to fix a slow bathtub drain?
Often, yes. A lot of slow tubs are clogged right at the stopper, where hair wraps around the linkage. Pulling the stopper and cleaning it fixes many of them. If the water is still slow afterward, the clog is farther down in the trap or branch line, and a small drain snake reaches it.
Will the Yarmouth sewer project change anything about my drains?
It changes where your wastewater ends up, not the pipes in your house. Once a property is connected, the septic tank is out of the picture, but hair, grease and wipes still clog drains. The town’s project will run for decades, so for many Yarmouth homes septic remains the reality for now.
What happens if a drain clogs in my rental mid-week?
Call (508) 274-9939 and tell us the address and what’s backing up. A clog with guests in the house gets a plumber that day, and our 24-hour emergency plumbers handle after-hours backups. Ask guests to stop using the affected fixture, and if more than one drain is backing up, to hold off on the washer and dishwasher.
