Drain Cleaning in Barnstable for Main Line Backups
A single slow sink is a branch line problem. A main line problem looks different: water comes up through the lowest opening on the system, often a basement shower or floor drain, and toilets bubble when the washer empties.
The main runs under the floor and out through the yard. In Hyannis it usually ends at a town sewer connection, and in most other villages at a septic tank. The blockage is somewhere in between, and the fix is a cable or jetter through a cleanout, not a plunger. It’s how our Falmouth drain cleaning work runs too: get the water moving, then find out what stopped it.

Sewered Hyannis vs. the Septic Villages
Hyannis is largely built out with sewer and parts of Barnstable Village tie into the town treatment plant, but much of Centerville, Osterville, Cotuit, Marstons Mills and West Barnstable still relies on septic. Where your line ends changes how we read a backup.
Home on town sewer
- The usual culprits are grease, wipes, roots or a sagging section of your own line
- In most cases, the pipe from the house to the connection is the owner’s to maintain
- If neighbors back up too, call the town
Home on septic
- The backup can be the pipe or a tank that needs pumping
- A clogged inlet baffle at the tank looks a lot like a clogged line
- We clear and inspect the pipe, and your septic company pumps
The town’s 30-year wastewater plan aims to bring sewer to roughly 12,000 more properties, with work done or underway near Strawberry Hill Road, Phinney’s Lane and parts of Centerville. If your street is next, have the house side of the line checked before the hookup.
What a Drain Camera Inspection Involves
A camera inspection turns guesswork into something you can see.
1
Get into the line
We start at a main cleanout, usually where the pipe leaves the foundation. If it’s buried, missing or seized shut, we go in through a toilet flange instead, and we can add a cleanout for next time.
2
Run the camera
A waterproof camera on a flexible cable travels down the pipe while we watch a live screen. A distance counter shows how far out each problem sits, so any repair is targeted.
3
Review it together
We show you the footage, whether it’s roots, a low spot, a crack or a clean pipe. Many lines just need a thorough cleaning. If the pipe is damaged, we explain the repair options before any work starts.
What the Camera Turns Up in Barnstable Main Lines
The most common findings once the camera is in.
Bellies and low spots
A section that has settled holds standing water, and paper and debris collect in it. The line still drains, just slowly, and it clogs again no matter how often it’s cleared.
Offset or cracked joints
When two sections shift apart, paper snags on the lip and builds into a clog. Cracks can also let sand in, which piles up in the bottom of the pipe over time.
Grease and scale
Kitchen grease and mineral scale narrow the pipe a little at a time, so the main slows down gradually. Hydro jetting usually brings it back to close to full width.
Wipes
So-called flushable wipes don’t break apart the way toilet paper does. We regularly pull wads of them out of main lines, and they snag worst on a joint or belly.
Neighbors who called us
I reached out to Blue Pacific as a new homeowner and knew whatever was happening with my plumbing I could not fix. They came right away and fixed my kitchen sink leak. Then we realized that the bathroom toilet needed some replacing and within 2 days Nick ordered a new one and came to replace it. The service was amazing. Literally issues were resolved within days. The communication between myself and Nick was clear, accessible and efficient. I would recommend this company to my family members. Thank you for helping me fix these issues I have been worrying about for months.
Since we moved to the Cape last Fall we have used Blue Pacific several times. Nick Savoy is incredible and can do just about anything! He is professional, prompt, neat and a pleasure to do business with! If I could give him 10 stars I would!
As ALWAYS Nick and his employees are awesome!!!

Sewage Coming Up Through a Floor Drain?
Stop running water and hold off on laundry, then call (508) 274-9939. Our emergency line is answered 24 hours a day, and a sewage backup in Barnstable is same-day work.
Check These Before You Call About a Backup
A few quick answers help us tell whether it’s the main, a branch or the tank.
Not sure about some of these? We’ll sort it out on site.
- Is one fixture slow, or several at once?
- Which drain is lowest in the house, and is water coming up there?
- Are neighbors on your street having trouble too?
- If you’re on septic, when was it last pumped?
- Where is the main cleanout?
Floor Drains and Equipment Lines in Barnstable Basements
Smaller drains cause plenty of calls too. Many Barnstable basements have a floor drain near the boiler and water heater, and a high-efficiency boiler sends condensate to it all season. When that drain clogs, water spreads across the floor and looks like a leak.
We clear those drains, and on a boiler installation in Barnstable we make sure condensate has a working place to go. If the water is coming from the tank itself, that’s a job for our water heater services in Barnstable. For anything else, see our page for a plumber in Barnstable.

My Hyannis house is on town sewer. Is the line to the street my responsibility?
In most cases, yes. The pipe from your house to the town connection is usually the owner’s to maintain, while the town handles the main in the street. The Town of Barnstable can confirm where its part starts. If only your house is backing up, the blockage is almost always on your side.
Should I get a sewer camera inspection before buying a house in Barnstable?
It’s a smart move, especially for an older home. A camera shows roots, cracks and low spots that a walkthrough can’t reveal. It works alongside any septic inspection the sale requires and gives you real information about the drain line before you commit.
How do I find out if my Barnstable street is getting sewer?
Check with the Town of Barnstable. Its Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan lays out sewer expansion in three ten-year phases and names the project areas. If your street is listed, have the house side of your line inspected and cleaned before the connection.
Why does my basement shower back up when I do laundry?
The main line is partly blocked. A washer dumps a lot of water fast, and when the main can’t carry it, water rises at the lowest opening, often a basement shower or floor drain. Clearing the main fixes it. Snaking only the shower won’t.
Do you clear drains in Osterville, Cotuit and Marstons Mills?
Yes. We serve every village in the Town of Barnstable, including Osterville, Cotuit, Marstons Mills, Centerville, West Barnstable, Hyannis and Barnstable Village. Regular visits can usually be booked within 24 to 48 hours, and our emergency plumbing service runs around the clock.
