Kitchen Clogs We Clear in Mashpee Homes
Most of our Mashpee drain calls start at the kitchen sink. Here is what we usually find.
Grease coating the pipe
Cooking fat goes down warm, then cools and sticks to the pipe wall. Food scraps cling to that layer, and over a few months the opening narrows until the sink barely drains.
Packed or jammed disposals
Peels, rice, pasta and coffee grounds turn into a paste that settles in the trap. Sometimes the disposal is fine and the pipe is packed, sometimes the reverse, so we check both.
Dishwasher water in the sink
The dishwasher usually empties through the sink’s pipe. When that shared line narrows, gray water pools in the basin after every cycle. Clearing the branch line under the sink normally ends it.
Double sinks trading water
If one side fills when the other drains, the clog sits past the point where the two sides join. Plunging just sloshes water back and forth, so we cable from below that tee.
Why the Kitchen Line Clogs First
The kitchen drain carries fat, starch and food waste that bathroom pipes never see. It often runs sideways under cabinets or across the basement before dropping into the main stack, and horizontal pipe is where grease settles and hardens.
A plunger can push a soft clog a few feet but never touches the coating behind it. So we treat it like any drain cleaning in Falmouth: open the blockage, then restore the pipe to full width.

Garbage Disposals on Septic vs. Town Sewer
Mashpee is building town sewer in phases, starting with neighborhoods north and south of Route 28, but many homes still rely on septic. That changes how much the disposal matters.
Home on septic
- Plenty of septic systems weren’t built with a disposal in mind
- Ground food adds solids, so the tank needs pumping sooner
- Grease that slips past the tank can foul the leach field
Home on town sewer
- No tank to fill, so the disposal is less of a strain
- Grease still hardens in your pipes before it reaches the street
- Your private line out to the street is still yours to maintain

Drain Cleaning in Mashpee Condos and Newer Homes
Mashpee has plenty of condo and planned communities, from the condo villages in New Seabury to the 55-and-over homes at Southport. Several kitchens can share one stack in a multi-unit building, so a clog there may back up into the lowest unit. A camera shows which section is blocked.
Newer houses have their own pattern. An island sink often sits at the end of a long, nearly flat run that collects grease fast. Our kitchen and bath remodel team can fix the pitch while the floor is open.

How We Clear a Mashpee Kitchen Line
Most kitchen drain calls take one visit.
1
Find the real blockage
We run water at the sink, dishwasher and nearby fixtures. What drains and what doesn’t tells us whether the clog is in the trap, the branch line or the main.
2
Snake or jet the line
We pull the trap, free a jammed disposal and run a drain snake through the right access point. When grease coats a long run, hydro jetting washes the pipe wall clean.
3
Test, then talk
We run hot water at full flow and check every joint we opened for drips. If we notice lukewarm dishwasher water from a tired water heater, we’ll mention it too.
Sink Backing Up Into the Other Basin?
Shut off the faucet and the dishwasher, then call (508) 274-9939. Urgent backups in Mashpee get same-day service, and our emergency line runs 24 hours.
Kitchen Habits That Prevent the Next Clog
Small habits help, especially on septic.
Summer guests mean more cooking. If the sink slows by late August, clean it before a holiday weekend.
- Wipe greasy pans with a paper towel before washing
- Pour cooled bacon fat into a can, never the sink
- Keep coffee grounds and eggshells out of the disposal
- Run cold water with the disposal and a few seconds after
- Skip caustic drain openers, which are hard on pipes and tanks
Kitchen Clog or a Full Septic Tank?
Drain clearing is our job. Tank pumping belongs to your septic company. A kitchen line clog usually affects only the sink and dishwasher. A full tank shows up everywhere: the lowest drain backs up first, toilets gurgle when the washer empties, and the ground near the tank may be soggy or smell.
When it’s unclear, we run a cable from the main cleanout toward the tank. If the line is open and water still won’t flow, call your septic company to pump it. For other plumbing needs, see our page on plumbing in Mashpee.

Drain cleaning in Mashpee: common questions
Still not sure? Call (508) 274-9939 and talk it through with someone who does this every day.
Can I have a garbage disposal if my Mashpee house is on septic?
Possibly, but a disposal is hard on a septic system. Ground-up food adds solids to the tank, so it fills faster and needs pumping more often, and some systems weren’t built for one at all. If you already have one, use it lightly, keep grease out, and plan on pumping the tank more often.
Why does dirty water come up in my kitchen sink when the dishwasher drains?
The pipe your sink and dishwasher share is partly blocked. The dishwasher pumps water out faster than the narrowed line can carry it, so it rises at the lowest open spot, your sink. Clearing the branch line under the sink usually solves it.
Who pays to clear a clogged drain in a Mashpee condo?
It depends on your association documents and where the clog is. Pipes serving only your unit are often the owner’s job, while shared stacks usually fall to the association. Check your master deed. A camera inspection shows which section is blocked so the answer is clear.
Our Mashpee street was just connected to sewer. Do we still need to worry about grease?
Yes. The sewer connection replaces your septic tank, not your pipes. Grease still cools and clings inside the kitchen line and the pipe out to the street, and that private section is yours to maintain. Older lines may carry years of buildup worth cleaning out.
Can you clear a clogged kitchen drain in Mashpee on a weekend?
Yes. We offer 24-hour emergency plumbing and have cleared kitchen drains for customers on a Saturday. If the sink is slow but still draining, a regular visit within 24 to 48 hours may be enough. Give us a ring at (508) 274-9939 to decide.
